About the DUNN EFFECTS Death Knob HM-2 EQ Blender

The Dunn Effects Death Knob is a single-knob blend control which allows you to dial in the unique textural grit, pick attack and aggression associated with the Boss HM-2.

But this isn't a really a distortion pedal - you could describe it more as a “utility pedal”, where you can blend in the classic sound of an HM-2 with its EQ section cranked, adding to your core tone.

The original inspiration for this pedal came from my own personal needs. At the time, I was playing in a band with a drive leading into an HM-2, but I usually dialled the distortion down on the HM-2 and just used its maxed-out EQ,” Matthew Dunn explains. “I ended up making the Death Knob as a utility pedal to fill that gap. I really liked the HM-2 but just wanted to focus on what I liked about it – namely the EQ section.

This makes the Death Knob really versatile, as you can set up a killer sound with your favourite distortion pedal and amp combination, and then just wind the Death Knob in until you get the desired amount of texture and aggression.

You can also experiment with running the Death Knob either in front of your amp, or in the effects loop for different responses.

    Death Knob Controls

Pretty simple really! One knob, which controls the wet/dry mix of the HM-2 effect with your original, unaffected sound.
